Text Box: Open Letter to the Warren County Communities:
We have a goal to raise $100,000 and 100,000 pounds of food this year but we need the help of everyone in Warren County to meet this goal!

On behalf of County Government, Warren County United Way, the Lebanon Area Chamber Young Professionals  and all Local Governments across Warren County, we would like to invite you, your family, school, business, organization or church to participate in our 6th Annual Countywide “Yes We Can Food Drive Challenge that runs from November 1st to December 31st.

When we started this food drive in 2006, we were starting to experience an increase in the number of foreclosed homes; rising unemployment rates; increasing number of families eligible for Food Stamps and our food Pantries were facing a 25% increase in requests for help.  Little did we realize how critical this food drive would become in assisting our Food Pantries to meet a growing demand to put food on the table for so many families.

While today,6 years later, the economy is showing some signs of improvement, like  decreasing unemployment rates this year, you can see by the chart below that we still have a growing number of residents needing help in meeting the very basic human need......food!
                                                                                 2006                   2010                  9/30/2011
     Unemployment Rate                                  4.8%                  8.9%                      7.7%
     Food Stamps (# of families)                    1,717 (8%↑)       3,963                   4,344  (9.5%↑)
     Food Pantries (# of individuals)           15,282 (25%↑)   47,548                 51,596 (9%↑)

The good news is that more and more Warren County residents and
businesses ARE stepping up to help every year and Lisa McNamara has
been hired for 2 months to Coordinate this food drive and Henkle
Schueler/Bunnell Hill Development has donated the use of a large
warehouse storage facility where we hope to greatly improve our
ability to distribute food barrels and collect & distribute the donated
food to our 7 Food Pantries (one pantry for each School District).
You can contact Lisa: wcfdcoordinator@gmail.com or call 513-384-6637

The Lebanon Area Young Professionals, lead by Bryan Hoying & Missy Stone will be coordinating the Food Drive in the Lebanon Business Community.

Once again, we invite every resident, School District, Community Club/Organization, and Local Government to join this effort.  We encourage groups to sign up YOUR Food Drive effort to become part of this Countywide Drive....help us achieve the highest amount of food and money ever collected so that our Food Pantry shelves are full throughout the entire coming winter months, not just for the Holidays.

We will report on this website the amount of food that each group collects and you can designate whether your donations go directly to your local pantry or if you want it added to the quantities that get divided up and shared with all 7 pantries.

If you want one of our “Yes We Can” Food Barrel placed in your business call 513-384-6637 and let Lisa McNamara know!  You can either come pick it up or she'll make arrangements to get one delivered.

DID YOU KNOW THAT FOR EVERY $1 DONATED TO OUR FOOD DRIVE WILL ALLOW OUR PANTRIES TO PURCHASE $10 WORTH OF FOOD THROUGH SHARED HARVEST?

OUR BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS would like to issue a "Financial Challenge" to everyone, including all Warren County Businesses....to match our $30,000 "Kick-off" contribution so in addition to the donated non-perishable food that will come in, our Food Pantries can take our collective $60,000 and purchase $600,000 worth of food for the coming year.  All cash donations can be paid on-line or directly to the Warren County United Way so that you can take advantage of their tax exemption status.  Just remember that if you write a check, make it payable to: United Way - Food Drive, 645 Oak Street, Lebanon, OH 45036

Times are tough financially for a lot of people but NO ONE in our county should ever go hungry.

We hope that you will accept this invitation to join our “Yes We Can Food Drive Challenge” and  help stock the food pantry shelves across this county so no one in Warren County goes hungry through the Thanksgiving & Christmas Holidays and long winter months ahead.

Sincerely,

Pat South  -  Dave Young  -  Tom Ariss
